If you’re new to wearing wigs, then let us help guide you along with some basic education and useful advice. There are a number of things to consider when choosing a wig or hairpiece and we know that can be very overwhelming for some people. Just wearing a wig can seem a bit daunting until you get comfortable with them. We hope we can help you out by giving you some very simple tips on how you can wear these appearance-enhancing aids with confidence.

Choosing Your Wig Style to Get the Perfect Cut for Your Face Shape

Take a look in the mirror. Go ahead, the rest of the article will be here when you return. Now that you have a fresh mental image of your beautiful face, let's determine what shape it is. The shape of your face has a lot to do with the success of the hairstyle you choose. You may see a style you adore on a celebrity, but whether or not it will work for you depends largely on the shape of your face. So, in order to determine a hairstyle that is perfect for you, the first step is to see what shape your face is.

Now go back to that mirror, love what you see and choose your wig style accordingly.
With these tips and suggestions, your inner beauty is sure to shine right through to the outside!

Buy a wig that fits properly.

Finding a wig that fits is key. Most people wear “average” sized wig caps, however, that may not be what works for you. In some cases, your head may be too small for a specific wig cap and it could bunch in spots or slide too easily off your head. Conversely, a wig that is too small for you could feel too tight or ride up which would be very uncomfortable for all day wear.

If you feel that the average cap will not suit you, click here for instructions on how to measure your head to determine a better cap size.

Please also note that all wigs can be adjusted to fit your needs. Wig caps will have Velcro tabs or plastic sizing hooks located in the back which can be tightened or loosened for fit. If your wig is still too large, you can secure it with bobby pins or additional combs or clips can be sewn in.

At Lori’s Wigsite we are able to custom size any wig of your choice as well. Click here for details.

Choosing Your Color

Another decision to make when shopping for a new wig or hairpiece is color. Alternative hair allows you to augment your usual color with highlights or lowlights. You could even use this opportunity to change your color altogether.

We understand choosing a color virtually can be difficult. Everyone's monitors are different and that can affect how the color looks from one screen to the next. Lighting also makes a difference, whether the professional lights of a studio, your own indoor lighting, or natural sunlight, alternative hair colors can be a challenge to match exactly to your own hair. Rest assured, we are committed to helping you find the right color that works best for you.

Wig Cap Liners are the fastest way to keep hair tucked.

Wig cap liners are by far one of the best tools to have for wig wearers. These nylon caps secure the natural hair so the wig can sit properly on top.

Wrap your hair around your head and pin it in place if you have medium to longer hair. Cover your hair with the cap liner and this will allow a smooth look underneath the wig.

Clean your wig regularly.

Not many people understand the importance of washing a wig. Wigs are exposed to the elements just as human hair, so it helps to refresh them. Cleaning and caring for your wigs is easier than you might think and all wigs will come with detailed washing instructions. Your investment is worth preserving and by regularly washing your wigs, you’ll make them last much longer.

Explore the possibilities

Whatever the reason you’re looking for a new wig, approach the process with optimism and excitement! A new wig can create a new you – to whatever extent you desire! When looking for a new wig, consider a subtle change in length or color, or go for a drastic change. The choice is yours!

There are several things to think about when looking for a new style. For starters, check out what’s trending by scrolling social media or by talking with your hairdresser. You may also want to consider the time of the year. For the colder seasons, you may want to let your hair flow long to your shoulders or beyond. Long hair trends may include layers that frame your face or drape over one side of your forehead. Parting your locks on the side is a must to boost volume and style.

When the weather starts to warm up, you may opt for shorter hairstyles. A short haircut can look edgy, but it can also look clean and well put together. To get that perfect balance between the two, go for longer layers on top that can be neatly tucked behind the ears with bobby pins and accessories or just as easily tossed into messy waves with a bit of product.

One great benefit to wearing a wig is the versatility and ease with which you can sample trends that may seem like a frightening commitment when done to your natural hair. Use your wigs to your advantage! The search for a new wig can be a fun experience if you bring along a playful attitude and a loving & honest friend. Whatever decisions you make, have fun and love yourself!
