Wig Styling & Maintenance
Can I exercise in my wig / hairpiece?

Can I Exercise in My Wig/Hairpiece

We recommend first brushing hair thoroughly from the ends to roots. Spray with a leave-in conditioner, proceed to create a few large braids or brush hair into a ponytail (secure with coated fasteners). Hair should be shampooed and conditioned well following intense activities.

*It's best to use an older wig or hairpiece for any outdoor or high heat activities, so you can keep your newer wig in pristine shape.

Can I sleep in my wig / hairpiece?

Can I Sleep in My Wig/Hairpiece

For best results, remove wig before sleeping. To maintain a longer life span of your new wig or hairpiece, we recommend not sleeping in it.
NEVER sleep in a wig that has wet hair either. Hair should be completely dry before retiring. Friction from a couch or pillows may cause the hair to tangle, matt or become frizzy. *We suggest using a silk pillowcase to minimize friction when laying down.

Can I swim in my wig / hairpiece?

Can I Swim in My Wig/Hairpiece

If you swim while wearing your wig or hairpiece, always wear a swim cap. Chlorine will cause the hair to become dry & brittle and tangle. For best results, the wig must be washed and conditioned immediately following any swimming activities.

Can I use the sauna while wearing my wig / hairpiece?

Can I Use the Sauna While Wearing My Wig/Hairpiece

If you are not comfortable taking your wig off completely, (& wearing a towel over your head)- then we suggest Wrapping the wig/hair in a cold, wet towel before entering the sauna. This will keep the wig fibers from drying out and becoming dull & brittle. Let air-dry afterward.

*If you have an older worn out wig, we'd suggest you wear that one instead of your newer wigs.

Can I wear my wig while cooking and using the oven?

Can I Wear My Wig While Cooking or Using an Oven

If your wig is a regular synthetic wig when cooking, please be sure not to open the oven, dish washer or BBQ, while wearing these types of wigs. Also, try not to expose the wig to any other heat source, such as a blow dryer, curling iron, flat iron, or even the clothes dryer, or opening a car hood etc.

*The good news is if your new wig is made with the "
Heat Friendly fibers" this allows you to use styling tools such as hair dryer, curling iron or flat iron (up to 350 degrees). These fibers are made with a slightly thicker denier in order to withstand the styling tools, and tend to frizz a little easier than the standard fibers (adding silicone hair serum helps).

How do I care for my 100% human hair wig / hairpiece?

How Do I Clean My Human Hair Wig/Hairpiece

Important: Never Submerge in Bowl or Sink!

~ Wash every 2-3 weeks at a minimum. More often if needed.

(Please note that Biolage products by Matrix do not work well on the human hair wigs – do not use these products.)
  • Hold wig straight or place on a wig stand. Brush well, section by section.
  • Spray wig carefully, using only cold water in a downward motion until wet.
  • Use a wide-tooth comb and comb through the shampoo, rinse well with sprayer.
  • Do not rub hair in circular motion during shampoo process.
  • Gently comb through wig conditioner and rinse well. Blot dry with towel.
  • Spray on a leave-in conditioner. Do not rinse out.
  • Place on wig stand, set with foam rollers or allow to air dry.
Natural air-drying is best to maintain hair quality & shine. Once it is 80% dry you can then blow it out using a low setting. Once completely dry you can use hot rollers, a curling iron or flat iron on the lowest setting only. Spray on a leave-in conditioner to your human hair wig / hairpiece every other day to keep its luster.

More Tips:
1. When brushing, always start brushing at the ends working up to the root area. Always brush gently as excessive brushing or force will cause hair breakage.
2. Friction from a couch or pillows may cause the hair to tangle. We suggest using a silk pillowcase to minimize friction when laying down.
3. Always rinse root area well. Conditioners or shampoos remaining at the root area will cause bacteria to grow, ultimately resulting in hair breakage.
4. Hot or very warm water will damage the hair shaft causing the hair to tangle and look dry. Always use cold water.
5. When you remove your wig, place it on a wig stand to maintain the shape.

Then, rinse it out with cold water and thoroughly blot dry with a towel. Follow with conditioner; leave it in for 5 minutes, rinse and towel dry. Leave the wig on a towel or wig stand to dry over night at room temperature. DO NOT comb or brush your wig when it’s wet! When it is completely dry, simply brush into your desired style.

Why is my wig shedding / balding / thinning?

Why is My Wig Shedding/Balding/Thinning

There are many reasons why this could be happening. In general a hand-tied wig will always shed slightly in the beginning as any loose hairs come free of the sewn hair. However, this normal occurrence should not result in bare spots.
Excessive shedding, balding, or thinning can occur if:
  • The wig is combed / styled while it is still wet after washing & conditioning
  • Combing and washing/handling of the wig is done in a rough manner
  • Oily or greasy hair care products are used on the unit
  • Adhesives are not thoroughly removed from the cap prior to washing
  • Hot or very warm water is used to wash the wig / hairpiece
  • The wig is combed from root to tip instead of tip to root
